JANE RUBIN

It is my reaction to nature that moves me to paint.

I paint in New England because its natural beauty is always so inspiring.

There is grandeur to its landscape, a purity to its light, and magic in its ever changing colors that I try to capture in my paintings. I weave all these elements of nature into my work using paint, pastel crayons and graphite - layering them to create a tapestry.

I begin each painting without a preconceived image but will inevitably end up in a place I remember. Often it is a detail of the place - branches on a tree, a corner of a garden, the undergrowth in a lake.

My work is abstract because it is more about my reaction to what I’ve seen rather than an illustration.

I want my painting to be a respite from the chaos of the world.
